Anstatt sich einer profitablen Karriere als Jurist zu widmen, gibt Pierre Durand sich voll und ganz seiner Leidenschaft, dem Springreiten, hin. All seine Hoffnung setzt er dabei in Jappeloup, ein kleines Pferd, das so ungestüm wie dickköpfig ist, aber eine unglaubliche Sprungkraft besitzt. Mit viel Geduld werden Pierre und Jappeloup schließlich zu einer Einheit.
